Amber's 1 year old!

We went to Amber's 1st birthday today.

It was another chance to catch up with my netballer friends from secondary school. Our next meet up will be in end November. We will be going to Basilico, The Regent, for Sunday brunch. I can't wait!

The 2 girls getting ready for the party.

Distant shot of the birthday girl.

And us with our kiddos. Oh, the boy is the son of another friend who's not in the photo. And yes, Kae is always happy at parties as she will receive party packs, balloons, and cakes to munch on!

Champagne brunch at Mezza9

The girls and I went for our most extravagant meal to date: champagne brunch at Mezza9.

I was missing good food and drinks and a good time out, hence I suggested to them the place. I fell in love with the food there after attending a friend's wedding lunch which was held at the same place.

Of course, champagne was the main drink that day.

Even though all the food was yummilicious, (and I need to go back for more soon), there's only one great love of mine, foie gras.

And my girls!

Till the next brunch!

The power Toy

Kerri's power toy arrived today.

Yes, we finally bought the Fisher and Paykel freezer. In the end, we decided on the vertical instead of a chest freezer as the former is frost free; I need not bring out the milk bags every time the freezer needs defrosting.

Okay, it may be a bit exaggerating to buy a freezer to store the milk. But I've used up the freezer space at my place, my mum's place and my in-laws' place, and I do not want to waste any breast milk of mine. So, the new addition. And I keep telling myself that I will use the freezer for frozen food next time round when we move; we'll just do grocery shopping once a month!

So my aim now is to stock up my freezer with milk. Pump pump pump.

Friends for Life?

This photo of Kae and ZY was taken during their children's day school outing to Polliwogs recently.

ZY is the son of our friends. He was born exactly 6 weeks after Kae. So you can say they knew each other since birth. ZY is not the only young friend Kae has in our group of friends. Especially from dar's group of friends, for now, as his friends are older and started their families earlier.

Every once in a while, there will be some gatherings organized, and all of us, the adults and the kiddos will come together and mingle. The adults will talk, eat, play mahjong, poker, wii, and the kiddos will eat and play. Altogether in a year, we will meet up once a month or sometimes even more frequently.

So, is it any wonder that all our children will be friends for life? I cannot imagine now that we will be attending the weddings of all our children in the future.

Who is the oldest friend you have? For me, it will have to be my friends I knew from Kindergarden, whom I still keep in contact with! Of course, it's never easy to keep in contact with and be abreast of all the happenings of every friend, but hey, there's facebook now!

Like what Carrie Bradshaw says in Sex and the City Season 5, "Friendships don't magically last for 40 years. You have to invest in them. It's like savings. You don't expect to wake up one day when you're old and find a big bucket of money waiting there.... We need an emotional retirement plan."

Let's all start saving!

Brunch at Barracks

We were thinking of brunch places to go to when I stumbled upon Barracks Cafe. We never ate at Barracks though we did venture there for a look see when we were planning Kae's 1st year birthday party 2 years back.

Reservations are a must if you want to go to Barracks on a Sunday. Applies to most of the popular brunch places actually. The place was bustling with people when we reached. Boy was I glad I called in advance.

Dar, as usual, had their 7-layer pancakes, while I ordered my usual eggs benedict, and we had the spanish donuts to share.

The 7-layer pancakes was something different compared to the usual pancake fare we get from other brunch places. In between the layers of dough and nutella spread are variations of nuts, apricots, pistachios, and raisins. I thought it was average; my jaw would definitely be tired out after all that chewing.

My eggs benedict was alright too. What I like about the dish is that they gave a lot of baby spinach.

The spanish donuts were quite disappointing. I felt that they were too deep fried for my liking. I miss the churros at Tokyo Disneyland.

I guess we will return for more since we have a 10% off voucher for our next visit. And dar likes the view and ambience of the cafe. But our favorite brunch place is still Rider's Cafe.

Fun at Polliwogs

Kae's school organized a surprise children's day celebration at the Polliwogs for the kids. Yup, the whole school headed towards the playground for a fun filled children's day.

I did not tag along this time round. And from the pictures that the teachers sent me, it seems that Kae enjoyed herself more when I'm not around; she always cling to me when I'm around during school activities. And she smiles for the teachers' camera more than she does for our camera!

a Bouncy good time

We attended Evangeline's 7th birthday party last saturday. And Kae had a bouncy good time literally. I wonder if she's gonna ask about the bouncy castle everytime she attends a party now.

With the pretty birthday girl:

And of course, together with her favorite Melissa jie jie:

Towards the end of the night, Kae played with ZY who came late. The funny thing about the 2 of them is they don't talk to each other while playing. I wonder if they speak to each other in school as they are classmates.

I can't wait for Kerri to turn 1 year old so that I can plan for her 1st year bash!

The 5th year

It's our 5th wedding anniversary today.

Sad to say, this year, we didn't manage to really celebrate both our Rom nor wedding anniversaries; we were in the hospital as Kerri was born the day before our Rom anniversary, and we were just too busy and tired from work and caring for the 2 girls that we forgot about celebrating our wedding anniversary.

It's kind of disappointing, as I had been looking forward to this day amidst all the crazy changes and madness going on. I knew this day will come, but I didn't expect it to be so soon, just after 5 years. And to think we used to talk about changing our wedding bands during the 5th year.

Anyway, what we managed to do was to head down to our favorite meat place, Gyu Kaku for a simple dinner.

I've been thinking about my own wedding 5 years ago. And I realized that I wish a lot of things could have been different. Like for instance, I loved the diamond version of my wedding band, but instead I chose the one without (basically the guy version) as to save $. I would have loved to hold my wedding dinner at another hotel but alas we can't really meet the minimum number of tables so no choice. I would have loved to have my gown done at DC and photographed by CL, but instead chose SW as the cost factor kept hovering in my brain. I would have bought all my bridesmaids similar dresses in the same colour as it would have looked better in the wedding photos.

All brides want to have their perfect dream wedding. Sad to say, I didn't have the wedding I've always wanted. But I found the perfect guy to have the wedding with.

Happy 5th anniversary dar.
