Candle Night at One Fullerton

We were planning on heading down to the Promenade at Central for a moonlit walk in celebration of the Mid Autumn Festival. But by the time we drove down, the carpark was full at The Central as well as Merchant Court hotel, and so we decided to head towards Boat Quay.

Dinner was at Pasta Fresca Boat Quay. I've forgotten how much I love their Zuppa Di Mare All' Amalfitana, which is their fresh succulent soup of prawns, mussels, clams, and squids cooked in a rich tomato soup and served with garlic bread. Yums! Sorry, I was too busy eating and didn't take any photos of the food. But no complaints! Pasta Fresca remains one of my favorite Italian restaurants.

After dinner, we took a stroll and walked to One Fullerton. Our intention was just to take a walk and let the girls take in the night view of the place.

What we didn't know was that there was a Candle Night event held at One Fullerton. It was organised by Lighting Detective and in collaboration with The Fullerton Heritage and 7 schools (Studio Miu, LASALLE, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Dunman High School). Details are in the flyer as below.

Hoping for a Candle Night 2013! And here are some photos we took.

And what better way to end the moonlit night then to soak in the magnificent Light and Water Spectacular show from MBS. Simply lovely. We should find one night to have dinner there by the river and enjoy the show over good food!

Happy Mid Autumn in advance!

The Light and Water show (Wonder Full) is shown nightly (dependent on weather conditions). Duration is about 15 minutes. From Sundays to Thursdays, showtimes are at 8pm and 930pm. For Fridays and Saturdays, showtimes are at 8pm, 930m and 11pm.

Harry Potter Exhibition

I finally visited the Harry Potter Exhibition. I've been planning to visit the exhibition since it opened in June, but alas, it took me more than 3 months to drag my feet down to the Arts Science Museum. Just in time too, because it closes on 30th September.

I brought Kae with me, and introduced her to the world of magic.

The exhibition was quite short in my opinion. I would have been out in 15 minutes, if not for Kae's incessant pleas to play at the Quidditch station as seen below (photography is not allowed within the exhibition halls).

A must go for die hard Potter fans I would say. But I wouldn't head there just to pass time.

After the world of magic, I brought Kae for a coffee break at the High Society. And of course she ordered macarons for herself. Hah!

Coffee was alright. Kae kept stirring my coffee though. And it didn't taste that great after she did. But I really like coffee places which serves sugar in cubes.

Berries Trial

Having heard many many good things about Berries, I decided to bring Kae there for a trial class.

Berries is a earning centre for children who wish to master the Chinese language. Kae's chinese has became worse ever since she left LSH, presumably because she is now not exposed to Chinese the whole day at St James.

And so we went. The class is quite long actually, 1 hour and 45 minutes to be precise. Kae came out smiling to my relief. And so I decided, with Kae's approval, to sign her up for Berries. Let's wait and see how she fares after 1 term there.

Obolo

We will head down to I12 Katong every now and then for dinner on weekdays after picking Kerri from school since it is near the vicinity.

And today, we stopped by Obolo for some macarons, courtesy of Kae, who is into macarons more than cakes these days.

And we finished all 6! Yes, 3 salty caramel and 3 chocoloate flavored macarons. Kae finished 3 all by herself. And Kerri got her first taste of macarons too. She ate slightly less than half though. Good enough!

1st Net-A-Porter Purchase

My very first purchase from Net-A-Porter!

More specifically, my black and blue items!

I have been thinking and thinking about them for like 3-4 months now before deciding to take the plunge to buy them. Yup, that's me! A procrastinator! All good though! Which means I don't regret my purchases!

The girls and their friends

The girls had a playdate with their friends today!

It all started when we decided to check if the Ks can meet up at the POLW since Kae has been bugging me non stop when ever she remembers. And mummy P invited us to where Kayla is taking her swimming lessons for a swim date instead. And so with plans made, we all headed for a swim playdate!

Since they are mostly Kae's friends, Kerri seems to be a bit stunned when we first reached the pool. But with a familiar face in Ashlyn, she soon warmed up and was enjoying herself tremendously.

As for Kae, she was so happy with seeing her friends again. You can tell from her expression!

All good things must come to an end. Having spent a good 4-5 hours together with swimming and dinner was bliss for the girls. Till the next play/swim date!

Biscuit King

I've always wanted to pay Biscuit King a visit. Why because I find it so expensive to buy the girls biscuits nowadays. They've been eating biscuits more than they eat their rice.

And so, we went one fine day after a visit to Bishan.

We bought 5 tubs of treats for the girls and ourselves! Kae was so excited picking out her biscuits from the huge varieties they had at the shop. And she also had fun looking at all the old school toys available at the shop too!

Wine Connection

Another day, another dinner place to think about. This time round, we decided on the Wine Connection

The place was too dark, so I couldn't take any nice photos of the food we've ordered.

All in all, the ambience was nice, even though it is a drinking place, there are plenty of high chairs for the kids. Even when we were there, we see quite a few families with kids dining there too. Food was not expensive, and plus the huge choices of booze, it sure is a popular place for many adults.

Gunthers

I met up with Clarice and Ginny to celebrate Gin's birthday.

Initially we wanted to dine at Akashi, but as Clarice was tied up with some work, we decided on Gunther's Restaurant at Purvis street, which is near to her office.

We had their set lunch of which I love the first dish!

One of the girls opted for the soup, which was served like a cappuccino.

My main dish was the steak of course, which was just average to me.

The girls ordered the pasta as their main course, and according to them, wasn't that fantastic either. The prawns were not fresh.

Their dessert of the day was really good! Panna Cotta infused with a tinge of lavender.

Happy birthday G! Many more happy years to come!

Saveur

I was all excited about making my way down to Saveur for lunch today.

Much hype has been buzzed about this French eatery which serves quality food at a super cheap price. Think coffee shop prices.

I reached at 210pm. Their previous website at saveur.sg (which now links to their Facebook page) states that the place is opened till 3pm, and last order will be at 245pm. The hostess then told me that the information had not been updated, and that the last order is now at 215pm. And she told me that  they are already closed for lunch. Hey, it was not 215pm yet. She sensed my unhappiness, and then changed her tone and said reluctantly that I could still have lunch there but I have to order NOW. And so I took a look at their menu and just ordered whatever came to my mind.

I only ordered 2 dishes. And the first dish was their angel hair pasta with minced pork and shrimp. At $3.90 a plate, I don't think I can fault the dish. Except I felt it was a tad dry.

Next was a big disappointment. Their foie gras. Which costs less than $10. They no longer serve a bigger portion of the liver, and so I had to make do with the teeny weeny portion. The exterior was not crisp as I would usualy like my foie gras. The whole liver was just too soft.

I left the place feeling unsatisfied. Maybe I had too much expectations of the food due to all the hype. But then again, for the price, I shouldn't complain too much. I bet many people will still flock to the place for french food.

Mum's birthday dinner at Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck

We always try to eat at different places for our parents' dinner, and this time round, we brought them to Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck at Paragon for my mum's birthday dinner.

Okay, we ate there for Chinese New Year, but it was for a different occasion, so that didn't count.

We didn't really know what to order, so we just went with our gut feel. But of course, we had to order the duck, which was their signature. You need to make an order for the duck when you call to make reservations. And reservations are a must, they are super packed daily with 2 seatings.

Next dish is broccoli and mushrooms. Yum!

My favorite dish of the night, steamed egg white with crab meat. Lovely! I could finish the whole plate!

I always tend to order salted egg squid. And the one served at Imperial is super yum! The salted egge tastes so good with the chewy squid.

Their fried prawns is average, though their prawns are really fresh.

A super oily and sinful pork ribs. We had trouble finishing this.

It is always tough to take photos with the girls. Even if it's just one of them.

Finally, a decent picture of the girls with their grandparents.
