Art Garden at SAM

Today is a first for Kae and me. Out first visit to the Singapore Art Museum. Yes, we are finally heading to the Art Garden!

This is part of the Children's Season which is held yearly during the June holidays. And this is one of the few museums I will bring Kae to this June.

Please note that all the descriptions in blue below are taken from the official Visitor Guide for the Art Garden.

at the SAM Front Lawn

Walter by Dawn Ng

Say ‘hi’ to Walter as he hops back to SAM! Discover the extraordinary in our everyday lives through this curious colossal bunny.

at Level 1

Ping Pong Go-Round by Lee Wen

The rules of Ping Pong are changed with this donut-shaped table. Grab a paddle and make some new friends by inviting any number of players to join you in a game!

Dancing Solar Flowers by Alexandre Dang

Discover the wonders of solar power through this colourful display of paper flowers. Observe how quickly or slowly the flowers “dance”, depending on the amount of sunlight they receive.

Echoes-Infinity-The Forest by Shinji Ohmaki

Carefully step into a beautiful world without shadows and be surrounded by art! Watch how The Forest “fades” with time as visitors walk over them. After your walk-around, head to the Activity Room at Level 2 and create your own floral pattern artwork using stencils similar to what the artist used.

And this is Kae's favorite pillar!

at Level 2

Film Screenings at the Moving Image Gallery

Don’t miss this special selection of inspiring short films and animations, including animated shorts by young Singaporean students for the N.E.mation! competition series.

Everyday Wonders by Loh Sau Kuen

Guess which parts of everyday objects were used to make these print patterns. Be inspired to try your hand at making your own artwork* with objects such as paper clips and clothes pegs. This is a collaborative work with the special needs trainees from TOUCH Community Services. *Each admission ticket will entitle you to a clay flower.

Activity Room

Learn different ways to create art through these hands-on activities inspired by the artworks in Art Garden. Make your own floral patterns with stencils, engage in colourful stamping activities or draw a special place in Singapore where you’d like Walter the bunny to explore next!

at Level 3

The Art of Imagination by Justin Lee

Explore popular local images and drawings in this interactive installation of recyclable cardboard boxes! Add your own designs or rearrange the boxes to put your own spin on the artwork!

And Kae had to buy 2 boxes, yes one for her and her sister!

Dress Me up by Justin Lee

Play make-believe in this fantasy world of dolls with a fantastical wardrobe of clothes and shoes! Dress up these life-sized dolls and decorate the GIGANTIC cake!

Let's Dance by Emilie Fouilloux

It’s time to get your body moving! Boogie to your heart’s content and watch your moves projected on the screen alongside videos of other participants!

Of course this dancing station was Kae's favorite!

Reactive Wall by Mojoko & Shang Liang

Can you recognise the images of popular characters and icons on the screen? Whisper, whistle, talk or clap into the microphone and see what happens!

at Level 4

Grow a Garden in the Dark by Tay Bee Aye

Help us grow the enchanting Garden by “planting” more origami flowers! Remember to come back again to see the Garden grow over time!

5QU1D by Ryf

Make a new aquatic friend in 5QU1D! Look at how colourful he gets when you go closer to him – the more friends he makes, the more colourful he will become.

Erm, We were the only ones there then, hence the white colour? Heh.
