Little Wimbly Lu

After dinner at Cajun Kings with the girls, as next door Wimbly Lu was packed, we decided to head to myVillage at Serangoon Gardens again for coffee like what we did the last time the 4 of us ladies were together.

Imagine our surprise when we chanced upon the newly opened Little Wimbly Lu. It was around 9 plus and it was full house in the smaller sister shop of Wimbly Lu. So when we saw that a group of people were about to leave, we went in immediately and got the seats.

The apple crumble and the chocolate tart were good, but I find that the waffles we had that night were not up to their usual standard as at Wimbly Lu. The waffles, like what G said, tasted like instant/frozen waffles. Seriously. Or maybe they've made the waffles even before they received the orders. I don't know. I only know I will probably stick to their Jalan Riang outlet if I have a choice.

Common Man Coffee Roasters

Dar is on leave today, so we took the opportunity to head to Common Man Coffee Roasters, our very first time there.

We ordered their white coffee, but I'm not sure which beans dar chose. But their coffee is good.

As we were not that hungry, we ordered their Common Man Burger to share. Quite nice too, but hey, it is hard to go wrong with a burger, yes, no? Don't fancy their fries though. I love thin fries!

And their Common Man Churros proved to be too sweet for me! Took us some time to finish these!

Brunch at Prive Cafe

We decided to head to Prive Cafe for brunch, a last minute decision. The plan was to find a place where the girls can have their pancakes.

I haven't been to Prive Cafe for brunch, so this was my first. I was a tad disappointed when the food arrived at our table. I just thought we were paying heavily for the view of the surroundings and not for their food. The mini burgers ($13), the fish and chips ($12), and the milkshake ($7) were ordered from the kids' menu. Seriously? $7 for a small cup of milkshake? Faint.

The portion from the ala carte menu was not impressive either. This was a order of pancakes ($13) from the ala carte menu. I don't think I will be back for their meals.

Eats at Jalan Riang

Finally, I brought dar to The Cajun Kings for dinner today.

I have been raving about their Frog Legs to him ever since I ate there. And of course, about the fresh prawns, the sweet potato fries and the pork belly cracklings. And since the 3 side dishes we ordered (the frog legs, pork belly cracklings and the sweet potato fries) were all fried, we decided to go for just prawns this time round. In 2 separate bags of garlic butter and spicy king's mix flavour. In my humble opinion, I think the spicy flavour was not spicy enough. I will go for the extra spicy the next time!

~~~~~
After a satisfying meal, we hopped over right next door to try out luck at getting seats at Wimbly Lu Chocolates. I say that because the last 2 times I went there with my friends after dinner at The Cajun Kings, the place was crowded with a long queue of people waiting for a table. As our dinner was early at 6pm and we finished before 7pm, we were lucky to snag the last table at Wimbly. Woohoo!
We had their waffle with salted caramel ice-cream and maple syrup and their root beer cake with vanilla ice-cream. I love both to death! And yes, their waffle is one of the best you can get in Singapore. No wonder almost every table has a waffle order! I'm gonna bring the girls here on a weekday when dar is on leave!
Organic Red Velvet
I love red velvet cakes, but it is not easy to find good ones. So far, I'm loving the ones from Cedele and Room Coffee and Bar. And today I found another place which sells good red velvet cakes, Dutch Colony Coffee Co
They sell an organic version, and the best part of it all, the cream doesn't taste too sweet! Yum! I am so worried now I will head there every time I finish my hot yoga class. Bleah!
Brawn & Brains
We stopped by Brawn & Brains for a cuppa before heading to a birthday party. The first time we travelled there, the shop was closed. Yes, please note that they are closed on Mondays, as are majority of cafes/restaurants.
The place was really tiny. Maybe a 20 seater at most. But the coffee was quite okay. I thought that the beans tasted quite different from what the other cafes are offering. A cafe worth exploring.
Jewel Cafe and Bar
I had my first eggs benedict at Jewel Cafe & Bar today when we met up with the ex-UOB ladies. And I can add this to my list of favorite egg bennies found in Singapore. Another on the list is of course the egg bennies from Riders Cafe.
Salad Lunch at Maison Kayser
When I need lunch around Wheelock Place, I would usually head to Sun with Moon Japanese Dining and Cafe, or Maison Kayser.
The choice for today was salad lunch set at Maison Kayser. I've always thought their set was value for money. You get a refillable basket of their delicious bread, a soup, a drink and a salad of your choice. They do have sandwich sets and other food on their menu too.
Lady M Confections
I needed to satisfy my sweet tooth craving, and so I persuaded the hub to bring the girls to try the cakes at Lady M Confections after dinner.
Famed from New York, I was dying to try their signature Mille Crepe cake. I think I was expectting too much, but I find the cake very ordinary.
A surprise discover was their Gateau Nuage (which translates to cloud cake). This is their version of a classic cheesecake. And hands down, the best cheesecake I've had ever. It was so silky and smooth tasting. A definite must order if you head to Lady M!
Cafe Melba
After we picked up Kerri from LSH today, we wanted to eat somewhere near her school. Hence, our first trip to Cafe Melba.
Both me and dar were not hungry, so we just ordered for the girls. Fish Dory and Carbonara. The food tasted quite okay I thought. We will be back.
Riders Cafe after facelift
And we are finally back at my favorite brunch place, Riders Cafe.
They went through a minor revamp of their premises previously, and this was our first time there since their revamp. And I like the clean look they preserved for the place. They did minor touch ups for the walls, ceilings and the main serving area. Very black and white colonial style which I love.
As usual their food and coffee did not disappoint. Both me and dar always have the same food when we are there. Blackstone Benedict (their version of Eggs Benny) for me, and the Riders Burger for dar. I still think they serve one of the best Eggs Benny in Singapore. But the Riders Burger seemed to have shrank in size compared to the last time we were there.
One must mention on their menu is their Death by Chocolate Cake. Simply rich and moist. Enough said. And oh, I don't think one person can finish this. Please order this to share.
Flock Cafe
Dar was on half day off today and so we thought we would bring Kae to try out a new place, Flock Cafe.
I like that their location is not near to the main area nearer to Tiong Bahru Bakery and the Hawker Centre, where it is hard to find parking. Flock Cafe is nearer to the likes of Forty Hands and the open air car park behind has plenty of parking spaces for us in the middle of the day.
They serve Liberty coffee which is good; their pancakes with strawberries earned Kae's approval and their prawn aglio olio was just cooked to perfection and not oily at all!
One of my favorite cafes at Tiong Bahru area for now.
