Sound of Music

And so we finally made it to watch The Sound of Music. All because Citi Prestige Cardmembers have the option of purchasing a pair of tickets for the price of 1 on a first come first serve basis. And we managed to secure a pair for Friday night.

I grew up with The Sound of Music. I do not know if anyone of you remember, but The Sound of Music was aired on television every Christmas Day 25th December for a continuous number of years when I was young. And I loved the show so much I bought the soundtrack (in cassette format of course). And I memorized all the songs. So I was pretty excited about watching the musical.

Overall, the musical was not bad, but because they had to improvise the storyline to fit into the time limit, the songs that I was so familiar with popped up at different segments from the original storyline. I preferred the show to the musical actually. But I do think that Bethany Dickson was a splendid Maria. Her looks, her voice just captured the essence of Maria Rainer. Bravo!

The Sound of Music
Runs from 11 July to 10 August 2014 at the Grand Theatre, Marina Bay Sands

Martini Bar at Mezza9 Grand Hyatt

Happy Hour time! We had a super early dinner, and head straight for the Martini Bar at Mezza9 Grand Hyatt just before 6pm, as their happy hours are 6-9pm, Mondays to Saturdays, and the drinks (excluding bottles) are at 50% off.

I had some passionfruit martini and the chocolate martini. The latter proved to be super strong for me, can you imagine getting high on chocolate? I like that their chocolate martini doesn't taste like chocolate milk, as all other chocolate liquors. Simply delish!

Common Man Coffee Roasters

Dar is on leave today, so we took the opportunity to head to Common Man Coffee Roasters, our very first time there.

We ordered their white coffee, but I'm not sure which beans dar chose. But their coffee is good.

As we were not that hungry, we ordered their Common Man Burger to share. Quite nice too, but hey, it is hard to go wrong with a burger, yes, no? Don't fancy their fries though. I love thin fries!

And their Common Man Churros proved to be too sweet for me! Took us some time to finish these!

Ginza Bairin

Ginza Bairin was having a buy 1 get 1 free promotion via J Passport, and dar and I decided to have our dinner there tonight while the girls are at home with my parents.

The deal was so worth it! I hope they will have another similar promotion soon!

Hard Rock Hotel Staycation Day 2 - Storytelling Comes Alive with Playmobil

After water play, we decided to head out for some storytelling before dinner. It was time for Storytelling Comes Alive with Playmobil located at Palawan Beach. Details of the event can be found here.

The girls had lots of fun at the session. The actors were really good at engaging the children into participating with them during the storytelling.

Runs from 31st May till 29th June 2014 at Palawan Beach, 11am-7pm

Early Anniversary Dinner at Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse

We had an early anniversary dinner tonight at Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse. Reservations are highly recommended as the place was full when we left. We had an early dinner at 6pm. Hah!

I was looking forward to dinner as I'm always on the lookout for nice steak. I like the fatty marbling kind, like the wagyu steak I had at CUT, that was truly the best steak I've ever had. Second was Skirt at W Hotel Singapore, but I think I've found the new second place tonight.

Their bread was freshly baked and warm and I love that they provide olive oil and chicken liver pate as the dip.

And I just had to order my favorite burrata as our appetizer. Whole creamy burrata goodness with a small serving of rocket salad at the side. My only grouse is that they should have given us more rocket salad.

As dar don't really fancy sides like mushrooms, or another vegetables, we usually would order asparagus as our side dish. They serve the best charcoal grilled asparagus in Singapore! Seriously!

And on to our main course, the Costata Wagyu F1 bone-in rib eye single cut. Super love! We wanted to try their Fiorentina Wagyu F1 t-bone initially, but after they learnt we love the fatty marbling meat, they recommended the Costata instead.

What's a red meat meal without red wine?

For dessert, we ordered their Valhrona dark chocolate with coffee crumble and passion fruit gelato to share. Too full after all the meat.

We will be back!
