a Packed Saturday

It was mad rush for us today. After Kae's ballet, we went to a 1 month old's party and then for dinner with my friends.

First stop, party time! The girls are always taken to balloons, so it's no surprise they queued for the balloon sculpting.

Kids nowadays are so fortunate. As if having one entertainment during the party is not enough, there are also tattoo painting and magic show available at the party besides balloon sculpting! Kae had so much fun having her hand painted. And guess what picture she chose?

Tada! She chose a girl's best friend, diamond! Hah! I didn't teach her that!

And she is at the age where she enjoys watching magic shows. I can't say the same for Kerri though.

~~~~~
After the party, we head towards Sun with Moon at Wheelock to meet my friends for dinner. And my girls had such fun interacting with the 2 aunties and uncle during the dinner. And they were the ones who help take the photos below with my iPhones!
CNY 2013 Day 2
We only had 1 place to visit on day 2. But before heading off to my auntie's house, my parents, brother and his girlfriend came over to our house first.
And we took our group shots! Kae was shy and didn't take photos with my brother and his gf.
It was so hard to get a good photo of the 2 girls. They were moving and not standing still.
Finally, a nice one!
As it was pouring, the lion dance troop arrived 2 hours later. But no matter. At least the rain stopped and they did put up the performance in the end. Really a year of the water snake!
And we managed to take a photo with Cai Shen Ye this year. Without the girls though. Kae ran up the room to hide while the lion dance was going on and Kerri was too terrified of the mascot.
The 2 kiddos in green! Kerri playing with baby Justin, erm, maybe playing with his toy instead of with him. Hah!
And here's the youngest member of the extended family, baby Rayner!
A simple toss yu sheng before dinner. It seems like tossing Yu Sheng during CNY is a singapore thing. I was asking my part time maid who hails from China about their CNY traditions. They only celebrate day 1 and day 15 of the CNY. No Yu Sheng tossing, or day 7 celebration of the Ren Ri for them at all.  In fact, she only knew of these traditions when she came over to Singapore.
And Kae had so much fun hanging out with Kayla that day. They really have a lot in common. They attend the same school and are in the same session, though different levels. They even have the excat same shoes! Haha! And I was contemplating of buying Kae the dress that Kayla was wearing that day for CNY!
And it was a girls' night for the kiddos. Chloe also joined in the photo taking.
the 2 Dragon Boys
We took the time to visit the dragon boys Rayner and Justin today. They were born 6 months apart and are the sons of my 2 cousins.
Babies are just so cute yah?
Freaking Out!
I just went to the gynae today and was informed that I was 2cm dilated!
Okay. I didn't expect this. As Kae was not even dilated when I went to hospital to induce her out 4 days earlier than her estimated due date.
I guess I am freaking out here a bit as it is now different compared to my birth of Kae. With Kae, everything was planned out nicely. We knew when she was coming as we chose the date. So I was prepared. We had no kids yet then, so we could go to the hospital as and when and need not worry about the existing child.
I am afraid, very afraid. What if baby K wants to come out soon? What if my worst fear came true? My worst fear being: I would arrive too late to the hospital and epidural could not be used on me? I think I will die.
God please help me.
Less good food the 2nd time round
I just realised that poor Baby K is deprived of good food.
Good food meaning food that is deemed nutritious for the baby and mummy. I remember when I had Kae, mummy would consciously cook fish ("gnaw" fish or cod fish) everyday for lunch. Then I would meet dar for dinner outside. Or I would tabao economical rice with 1 meat and 2 vegetables. And every (other) tuesday when my mum was on her off day, she would cook dinner for us back at Bishan. Dinner as in fish, meat and vegetable, which is to my liking, which I can't say the same for my dar, hah! No special/nutritious food for me at the in-laws' for our weekly dinner though.
I would also watch what I eat. Strictly no raw food, not even half boiled eggs. I only had 2 pieces of salmon sashimi once during the 9 months I was pregnant with Kae. No steak, as even though you ask for well done steaks, they would not be so well done in the end.
Now, with Baby K, I only cook fish for lunch every alternate day if I am hardworking. Sometimes I just survive on bread, milk, and cereal for lunch. And instant noodles too. I am too lazy to go tabao economical rice for lunch, unless during my lunch trips to NTUC. Yes, I still go NTUC now to buy the household stuff. In my big yellow bag. Hah! My mum does not cook dinner on her off days now, as she and my dad would go pick Kae from school and take care of her instead. And still no special/nutritious food at the in-laws' for our weekly dinner.
I eat raw food still. Though of course not frequently. I think I had some sashimi (maybe around 5-6 pieces) like twice in this pregnancy. I had well done steak once. I still eat foie gras. And I am eating more sweet stuff, which is not good, erm gestational diabetes duh!
So, it's no wonder Baby K weighs less than Kae when they are of the same "age". The gynae predicts that Baby K will weigh between 2.8-3kg at full term, while Kae was 3.465kg when she was born 4 days before full term.
This is also why my sugar level is high on the average range this time round and why my iron count is low. I need more good food!
We need a name!
We still have not decide on the baby K's name. Both english and chinese.
Ideally, baby K's name will start with the letter K, same as Kae of course. But both me and dar have not found a name we both are comfortable with. Even when we do, the meaning of the name will deter us from using it. Hah.
By the way, Kaelyn means "Pure".
Any suggestions? Maybe I will do up a poll here and you can help me decide. Heh.
the Dream Stokke Nursery
My Dream Stokke Nursery. You can create your own Stokke Nursery at their website.
Okay, this came about as we are now looking to buy a new cot/cot bed for baby K. Kae's hand me down cot is now with another family.
Sigh. We should have bought Kae her own cot/cot bed then and baby K would have been able to share her sister's lovely cot. And since it will now be used only once, it doesn't make sense for us to spend too much on this. So bye bye Stokke Nursery. Forever.
the Start of the Final leg
We went to the gynae today for my routine check up. I'm into my 27th week now and will be into my 28th week in 2 days time. Which means I'm into my 3rd trimester of the pregnancy. Baby K now weighs about 1kg.
PS: the top pic shows baby K's face, and the bottom shows her hands and feet.
I have no idea why, but this pregnancy seems to be longer than last time round. As in it seems like forever that baby K is in my stomach. Of course I do not want her to enter the world earlier; problems like jaundice and other complications (touch wood) may kick in. It just seems like I've been pregnant for the longest time.
And also, I've been experiencing Braxton Hicks like forever! The contractions always come at night when I sleep, and it can lasts for like minimum 30 minutes each time! Argh, I've never felt this uncomfortable the last time round.
People say that it's different the 2nd time round. As in you won't feel so anxious. You won't need to buy so many things for the new baby. You won't feel unprepared as you've been there and done that. But I am worried that I may be too complacent for my own good.
We still haven't settle the lack of our baby cot, if you've read my previous post on this pregnancy. And the baby room aka Kae's room is now a mess with all Kae's toys. Kae's wardrobe is already filled to the brim with Kae's clothes. And I haven't get down to washing baby K's clothes yet. Even though my edd is 26th June. I keep thinking that baby K wanna see the world earlier.
Hopefully, we will settle the baby room within the next week or so. And I do hope to clear some wardrobe space at the same time too. It's time to weed out the useless toys and clothes that my 2 K's will never wear (again)! Which means throwing of stuff! Yay! I lurve to throw junk away! Haha!
One major problem I foresee will be our sleep. Kae will be sleeping with us still while baby K will be made to sleep alone in the baby room. I wanna train baby K to be independent and not be like Kae, who needs to sleep with us. The problem is while tending to baby K's nightly feeds, Kae has to be looked after too, as she wakes nightly anytime between 3-5am for milk. Maybe I should increase her night dosage again. Sigh. I think I am in need of another super magical eye cream. And so does my dar, as I think he won't be sleeping well too, as Kae always whines for him at night when she wakes.
Also, no pacifier, no rocking of baby K. Kae is, sad to say, still looking for her pacifier every now and then, especially when she's sad. And I want baby K to fall sleep on her own without any rocking or swinging. No yao lan!
& Dar's life is charmed with females
It's official, Kae will be having a baby sister!
I am thrilled honestly speaking. After seeing how small boys behave, I am thankful that Kae is not one, however naughty she already is, she can't compare to the male counterpart. But having said that, I know that everyone would prefer to have 1 of each. It's the way everyone ask the century old question: So it's a boy this time round? How direct is that? Tell that to dar's nephew who asked me this question not once but twice after he knew I was expecting. When I asked him who gave him that impression, guess what his answer was. I suspect all the older folks would be in the male preference zone. Come to think of it, I am the only one I know in my and dar's groups of friends with 2 girls! The rest all have 1 of each or 2 boys. Anyhow, I am happy with any gender, as long as the baby is healthy and happy. Who cares what people think. Bleah!
I am secretly hoping that this baby will look more like me this time round. As everyone can tell, Kae is an exact photocopy of dar. Not that I am complaining, Kae is really pretty! Okay, I am being biased here, but hey, every parent think their child is the best looking kid on the block right? I suspect I will be fairly disappointed if the baby turns out to be another dar lookalike. Haha!
And now, I have every reason and 1 more excuse to buy Kae more clothes, shoes, toys, etc. Because she can pass everything down to her baby sister! Yipee!
the 2nd time round
I'm currently 19 weeks and 6 days preggy. A few changes this 2nd time round.
1. I'm feeling more uncomfortable compared to when I had Kae. When I was expecting Kae, I didn't feel anything at all, except for the Braxton Hicks which I had during the late 3rd trimester. This time round, i felt nauseous during the early stage. Imagine how much i felt like puking when we were on the road trip to Perth. Hah! But the good thing was I didn't. Everything was kept within me. Hah!
2. I'm feeling bloatedness everyday. It's affecting my appetite I think. Now I don't eat as much as I used to. I don't have any craving for any food except for foie gras perhaps. I cannot even finish my own plate of food even after sharing with Kae half of my food.
3. I get tired really easily. I think it's my age.
4. I look bigger than the 1st time round. My tummy is looking huge for a 19 week-er. I think I look like a 25 week-er. Even though I only put on less than 3kg (weight taken as of yesterday). And the funny thing is, all my food seems to go to my tummy. My face (i think), my limbs are still not feeling the weight gain.
5. I prefer to wear shorts and short skirts now. I always wore capris the 1st time round, but nowadays, I feel damn hot to wear even 3-quarters! So I have been buying shorts and skirts to wear. My cny dresses are shorter than my normal pre-preggy dresses!!!!!
This time round, I am thinking that I can handle the baby all by myself. The thing I hate about hiring a confinement nanny is that they stink up my whole kitchen with oil! My kitchen was damn oily even after she cleaned it everyday. So this time round, I've decided to cater my confinement food, and ask my mum to take leave and help me for 2 weeks if her work permits her to. I guess I am feeling more confident this time round with the previous experience. So, I'm even psyching myself up in case the baby comes earlier than expected and my mum can't take leave then. I can do it! Of course, my dar will suffer more with this decision of mine, coz then he would have to help in caring for Kae in the night. But I think all things will work out in the end.
I am kinda feeling stupid too for not insisting to buy new stuff for Kae when she was a baby, ie. the cot, the playpen, etc, the list goes on. It's kinda a waste now to buy new ones now for the baby when we are so not having a 3rd one! And kinda troublesome to move back the stuff from another family whom we've passed the hand me downs to. Argh. So, if you are having your first kid and have no intention of stopping at just one, please just buy your own stuff!
And it's kinda tough being preggy with Kae around. I have been picking Kae up from school everyday. And we would usually go off to shopping centres to wait for the daddy to finish work and have dinner together. The problem in bringing out Kae alone without the daddy is that she always want me to carry her! And when daddy comes along, she wanna walk instead! Argh. I'm getting heavier to be abe to carry Kae. Sigh. Tiredness and cramps will then kick in.
Recently, I've been looking at all the old photos of Kae when she was a baby.
I do miss those days when she was young, and oh so babyish. Hah! I really cannot imagine what my life will be like when this baby comes along. I'm kinda the few in my gang of friends to have kids, let alone 2! So, my friends, please make time to go out with me before I vanish completely in June! Wahahaha!
What's in a Name?
I just realised today that there are 3 other younger babies (of friends' from facebook) with the same pronounciation as Kaelyn, though spelt differently.
We actually spent a long time deciding on Kae's name. And before we used Kaelyn, I do not know of ANYONE who has the same name. Seriously! And suddenly, Kaelyn's name is more common than Mary or Jane. I do feel pissed.
Sorry, no offence meant folks. I am just puzzled at why certain names are more frequently used during certain times. Argh!
I need a more unique name for the 2nd baby!
