the day it POURED

It was a crappy day today.

First, we headed to repair our iPad. Yes the inevitable has happened. The girls dropped the iPad and the screen cracked. And so after asking around with friends, I decided to head to The Repair Hospital to get it fixed.

They charged me $160 nett for the replacement of the screen, which I thought was alright. Well, we need the iPad for our upcoming trip to Aussie land. So we do not have much of a choice do we? The last I check with Apple, it costs about $400ish for a replacement of the iPad. Yes, they replace the whole iPad.

Kae and I were caught  in the super heavy downpour on our way to pick up Kerri. And I do mean HEAVY. We were on bus number 10 on our way from ARC to Mountbatten when it started to pour at Shenton Way. Seated at the upper deck, I saw that it was very very foggy; I could not even make out Suntec City while we were opposite Esplanade! And so, I alighted and ran with Kae sharing one umbrella to Citylink Mall.

The weather seemed like it was in a freaking bad mood. Lightnings flashed every few minutes, thunders roared every few seconds. People were all taking shelter at the shopping centres. Kae and I waited out about an hour before the rain subsided and we went right to pick Kerri.

I wanted to take a cab back home with the girls, but due to the crappy weather, I could not even get through the cab companies' hotlines. My handphone battery was dying on me too. With no other way, we walked to take the mrt back home.

And this was my view on the mrt. With me carrying Kerri and 2 big bags, Kae could only hold on to the rails herself. And the fine young generation of our society today just looked on and continued with their games on their mobiles. SHAME ON YOU!

In the end, it was a lady of my age who helped me block out 2 seats with her body when 2 people vacated their seats opposite the fine young generation. Thank you lady in a coral colored dress!

After the grueling train ride, we finally reached Botanic Gardens station. I was so tired I decided to just head to Bar Bar Black Sheep with the girls for dinner. And of course, a much needed tonic!

The girls were considered to be quite well behaved that night. Maybe it was because they had new colored pencils and a new coloring book to distract them.

We sat inside this time round. The whole place is very cosy. Luckily for us, it was not a full house night. Maybe it was because of the wet weather.

I ordered the granchio pasta dish for the girls, which they had the last time we were there. Shredded crabmeat with tomato based pasta. While I decided to try their grilled chicken salad, which was well worth the money and very delish!

First dinner date with just the girls (forced by circumstances)! Success!

Cafe Manuka

I tried out a new cafe today while Kae was doing her craft activities at Fidgets Island. Yes, again. She loves that place!

Cafe Manuka is located just in front of Fidgets Island. So I could walk over and check on Kae every now and then. I had their Flat White was was average. I loved their Mushroom Cheese sandwich though. Mushrooms with melted cheese in toasted Ciabatta. Yum! One small downer, this is the first plate of sandwich I had that came without any small salad and/or fries at the side? So for the price, I will not order their sandwich again, no matter how good they taste.

Eats at ARC

Every Wednesday we will head to Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC) for Kae's Berries lessons. And every week, she wants me to buy her the waffles from Gaufre Menn.

Their waffles are one of the nicest I've had. The waffles are supposed to be of a authentic recipe which hails from Brussels. Yes Belgiam waffles! But bear in mind we always eat the waffle warm right after we buy them. Yes, the staff will heat up the waffles before handing them to the customers. Thumbs up! And they've become Kae's weekly fix now.

And instead of Spineli, this is my 3rd time camping out at Room Coffee Bar. My first taste of their Flat White there today. Nice, strong and fragrant! I like it better than their Latte, which is also very nice by the way.

And I chanced upon their red velvet cake today. I ordered a salad initially, but they ran out, adn so I asked if they still have the red velvet as it was not displayed. Luckily for me, they are available! And I am loving their red velvet! It reminds me of the red velvet at Plain Vanilla which I love so much! A must try for red velvet lovers!

Cookies for Sid

A new cookie store is in town!

I was quite excited to try their cookies as they are helmed by the same people who started Twelve Cupcakes. And since they were having an opening promotion, I bought 3 to try.

The flavors I bought was Mocha Expresso, Oatmeal and Raisin, and Chocolate Chip M&Ms.

My favorite has to be the Mocha Expresso. The taste was distinct, and you cannot find another cookie in Singapore which taste as great as this. Caffeine and Chocolate, yum! The Oatmeal and Raisin was alright I guess, just a tad sweet for me. And of course Kae had the Chocolate Chip M&Ms. I took a bite of that and it was normal to me.

One thing to note is that I actually had the cookies 3 hour I bought them. So they might taste better if I ate them immediately insteda. But for me, I would choose their cupcakes over the cookies anytime. No brainer!

IPL at Musee Platinum

I've been looking at packages for IPL Underarm ever since I started on IPL Lower Leg and Brazilian at Strip. I'm not willing to fork out a huge amount for Underarm as there is not much hair there compared to the other areas. A-hem.

So, I decided to take a chance with Musee Platinum when I saw that they were having a promotion online.

I've googled about this and there had been mixed reviews about their service and the attitude of the staff. But most people who had their treatment done at the Parco Millenia Walk branch were generally happy with their service and attitude, so I decided to head there too.

The staff who served me was Angie, and she was very polite and friendly. Even though I indicated on the questionnaire that I have done IPL treatments before and am quite familiar with the treatment, she still explained patiently to me on what the whole procedure is about.

The whole treatment took like less than 10 minutes. And I made my next appointment on the spot for 2 months later.

Because they are so packed with customers, they actually penalized customers at a $10 charge (for those with an unlimited package like me) if they do not show up by the appointment time. I guess this may seem harsh to some.

Overall, I would recommend any friends to head there for their IPL Underarm treatment. Just be prepared to be unlucky to get a unfriendly staff (if any).

For your information, they are now having another online deal at Groupon which is a better one than mine! Please refer to the link here.
