Night Out with the girls

My 1st night out with the girls in a long time! And I just had to wear my killer heels with pants of course. What if I fall flat on my face? Hah!

Our 1st stop was Beer Market at Clarke Quay. It was my 1st time at this place. The music was loud and deafening, to the extent we do need to shout to talk to one another. And so, after finishing our fries and beer, we left in search for another pub.

And those were the only pictures I took that night.

After roaming around, we decided The Pump Room was our next stop. We were trying to look for a pub with cute dudes and good music, and while this place didn't have a lot of cute dudes, the music was alright and there was a dance floor and we danced for a while. It felt so good!

Seriously, while walking around Clarke Quay, we noticed there was a lack of cute dudes, and might I say pretty gals too. The majority of the people there were not locals. I felt like I was in a foreign land partying. And I am not saying that the non locals don't look good, I'm saying, where the hell did all the good looking people go?

And while waiting for a cab in the taxi queue to head to Avalon, we witnessed a near gang fight right near the taxi stand. It was kind of scary. One moment, a man was running away form a group of people. then another minute, we saw a woman trying to kick the man who was running away, and the girl was flung away by someone, and she kept going back to attack the guy. Feisty.

Anyway, back to Avalon. I think we reached there after 2am. Yes. That late. And I felt like I was in a foreign land yet again. Seriously, where's everyone? I was quite excited to head there. But seriously, I do not see the big fuss about that club. Maybe it's because I'm getting old, and these clubs don't appeal to me anymore. The whole place was quite stylish yes, but the music don't agree with me, and there ain't much seats for the party goers to rest their feet. But hey, I guess people are supposed to boogie the whole night long on their feet instead of sitting down to drink and chat with friends at a club yah?

I think we left the place like after 30 minutes? The night life isn't for me anymore. Old foggies like me should just head to a pub for chill and relax next time round.

St-Marc Cafe

I remember clearly that the cafe was always empty when they first opened in Singapore. After a month or so, they became so crowded, and there is always no table in sight when we walk pass. So today, when we saw that there was an empty table, we took the chance to stop for a coffee break.

Their coffee was average. Nothing fancy. See, no latte art even!

Their famous croissant is the savory kind. Their well know Chococro, made of the nest blend of Ghana Beans and finest Ecuador beans, wrapped with crispy rich buttery flavor croissant dough. Not my kind of croissant though.

And though there was a queue, I went back to the cashier's and ordered their ice cream to try.

I ordered their chocolate banana flavor as Kae loves both chocolate and bananas. Though priced at $8ish, I thought it was well worth it. Besides the 2 scoops of ice cream, slices of bananas and the mini pudding at the surface, there were mini sponge cakes and corn flakes at the interior of the dessert. Super yum and different! It was like being surprised at every bite! Loved it and will be back for more!

Picotin Express at Quayside Isle

And back we went to Quayside Isle again, and this time, we ate at Picotin Express.

I love that they serve bread to the customers as an pre dinner snack.

The cheese they use for their bolognaise smell and taste quite strong. I didn't really like this dish.

Their carbonara taste quite good!

We had their Pinto Pizza, and asked them to omit putting the tomatoes. Yup, we do not like the red fruits.

From the word Express, I did not think it was a full cafe, but they do serve quite a number of food. And their prices are definitely not of express deli prices.

Polliwogs at Robertson Walk

With both girls off from school today, I decided to bring them to Polliwogs at Robertson Quay for some fun play. This was our first time there.

The whole place was about 70% full, mostly occupied by expatriates, Japanese, Korean and English mothers with their kids.

The girls had fun, well, at last Kae had fun. Kerri simple walked around and played at the ball area, and would come running out to me when she's bored.

One thing bad about this place is that the toilet is located outside of the Polliwogs premises. Other than that, it is quite a spacious place with lots of seats for the parents to sit and sip coffee while the kids roam the play areas.

Omakase Burger

We decided to try the burger at Omakase Burger tonight since the girls were not with us. I've heard rave reviews about how good the burgers were, and I was dying to see if the reviews were true.

The place was quite big, and can easily seat up to 70-80 people at one go.

We ordered a side of truffle fries to share, and I didn't taste anything truffle about it. It seems like every other dining place which serves fries are selling truffle fries, and it seems to be very difficult to find that perfect fry with truffle taste.

Next stop, their burger. I ordered their deluxe cheeseburger, which costs $15.90. Yup.

While the patty is truly soft and moist, and the burger tastes better than the ones served at Wendy's or Carls Junior, I am not a burger person who thinks that this is totally worth the full buck. As much as I enjoyed the burger, I would not return here for another round. Unless you know, if there are special price promotions to entice customers like me.

Claypot Chicken Rice using Rice Cooker

I wanted to try this recipe as soon as I bought my new rice cooker from Zojirushi. Claypot Chicken Rice, using a rice cooker. The cheat method. Heh heh. And of course, the recipe is taken from noobcook.com.

This meal is very simple to cook and taste not too bad. Maybe I will try to add in salted fish another day to try.

La Cantine

I met up with 3 of my girlfriends today for lunch at La Cantine. The chef of La Cantine is Chef Bruno Menard, the first 3 michelin Star chef to be permanently based in Singapore. So you can imagine I went to lunch with great expectations.

I love their butter that goes with the bread.

I ordered their set lunch. The starter was some potato pork salad which tastes quite good!

The main course was cod fish gratin. It was my first taste of cod fish gratin, and though it was baked, it didn't taste too heavy. The cod fish was quite a twist compared to the usual potato or meat gratin.

Cherine ordered their duck confit as her main course from the ala carte menu and while I didn't get to try it, she exclaimed it was very good!

The bomb of the meal was the salted caramel lava cake, which we ordered from the ala carte menu! Oozing with caramel goodness, there was a pinch of salt on the cake to make the whole experience even more heavenly. Lava cakes will never taste the same ever!

Our dessert from the set lunch menu was the petite 3s? Nothing to wow about, it was average.

My verdict: This is my new favorite restaurant!

Day before Term 2 starts

I got woken by the girls early this morning! And since Kae has no swimming lesson today, the girls were whining to go to the pool for some water play. And this was me, so afraid of the hot sun, in my cap and sunglasses under the shade!

And while Kae swam with daddy in the adult pool, Kerri had to stay at the kids' pool and just wplay with water.

After an hour, the girls grew tired and Kae asked to go to the Jacuzzi pool for some leisure fun instead of learning to swim.

~~~~~
After dinner at Great World City, we walked around and chanced upon the mini set up by Forest Adventure at the atrium area just outside the entrance of I Wanna Go Home. Kae was all excited and pleaded to try it out. And so we relented. The last time they were at Centrepoint a year back, Kae was not of the minimum height of 110cm. But she is now!
Kae is proving to be like her daddy in every aspect, loves water and adventure. Daddy's girl definitely. I don't see that in Kerri, yet.
